Bein Sports, Bacolod and the Hat Trick Sports Grill

Thank goodness for the Hat Trick Sports Grill  Bar in Bacolod run by Miguel Luis Rivero. He’s my hero! Some of you may know that I have been waging what seemed like a solitary campaign to receive Bein Sports channels in Bacolod. Bein Sports hold the rights from the English Premier League to broadcast English footy in the Philippines. It not only shows English football but also games from all over Europe including Champions’ League games.  Europe is where the best players in the world ply their trade. Think Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, Christiano Ronaldo, Aguero, Yaya Toure, Eden Hazard and Philippe Coutinho. My campaign is a long and weary one met with frustration at every turn. Read here  for the full story. I…

“Barrister Speak”: A Guide

I shamelessly reproduce this post on a blog from a barrister finding his way through the criminal justice system in England. I thank my London lawyer friend who posted the dialog on Facebook. It deserves as wide an audience as possible. It is so “on the button” and so true. Sometimes the barrister jargon backfires on the speaker. It happened to me once in front of a senior judge at Inner London Crown Court. Whatever I said to him, and of course in “barrister speak” but I forget exactly what I said, was not fully understood by the learned judge. I was in one of those awkward spots when the client was being extremely difficult if not impossible, and I had to convey to the judge…

Writing is Fun

I recently made the acquaintance of a young Filipino man who left a ‘Like’ on my Facebook Page.  His nickname is NicNac.  It turned out we were both members of the same writers Facebook Page. One of those groups where people hang who have interests in common. I discovered that he also lived in Bacolod so he was a neighbor of mine.   Through Facebook Messenger and emails I also found out that he loved to write but maybe he was lacking in confidence. I decided to reach out to him and asked him to write me 1000 words on any subject he cared about. This is what he sent to me –    “Writing is Fun” Writing is a very fun thing to do…

Social Media

Why do I blog? That is a very good question. I recently wrote that in my post Why Blog? Blogging 201. As I wrote in that post primarily I enjoy writing. A pleasant side effect is that it brings in some extra money to supplement my retirement income. Let me make that clear – this blog does not earn me one cent. My paid writing is commissioned for someone else’s web site and for reasons of confidentiality I am unable to reveal which site or even what genre it covers. Suffice to say it combines my writing skills with my investigative skills gained in a ‘previous life’. If that intrigues you then read my bio. I also mentioned I blog to try and drive  internet traffic towards…

Facebook Dislike Button – Who Cares?

Facebook Dislike Button? It has been reported that Facebook is considering adding a Facebook ‘Dislike’ button. Apparently it has been listening to users – for a change! It is galling when someone posts about a sad event  or even a tragedy and people click the Like button! I can’t understand that at all. But those folks at Facebook say the new button will not be labelled “Dislike’. They are looking for suggestions as to the new name. Maybe you out there can come up with something good or maybe funny? Let’s give it a try and all have a go at my poll. I promise I will send the results on to Facebook. If you need any help I will go first. What about these labels…

Angry Facebook User

I have no idea why this has popped up on my page! I’d rather boil my head in a bucket of swine flu! This was a comment posted on my Facebook page by an angry Facebook user – an English guy.  I have called him Mr. Blogg so as not to identify him by name. I think it is amusing so I replied – Thank you Mr. Blogg but please don’t do that. Sounds rather painful! His comment was  in response to my post titled Liverpool Football Club that was published both here and on my Facebook Page as well as other social media sites. This ‘Boil my head in a bucket of swine flu” comment is both graphic and nonsensical. It may also be indicative of…
